Description and Uses:

Angelica Root Essential Oil is an anchoring, restorative, and strengthening oil, steam distilled from the root of Angelica archangelica. Deep, earthy, and musky with remarkable tenacity, Angelica Root is often used in natural perfumery as a grounding base note and fixative—adding depth and staying power to blends.

Traditionally, Angelica’s fragrance has been associated with supporting appetite and digestion, and it’s often used in massage blends intended for abdominal comfort (properly diluted). Angelica Root is also commonly mentioned in aromatherapy for seasonal respiratory support, making it a useful oil to diffuse during cold and flu season or when the air feels heavy and you want a clearer, more fortified atmosphere.

Emotionally, many people find Angelica Root to be deeply grounding, supportive during stress, and helpful when feeling depleted, scattered, or “worn thin.” It can be used in massage blends, compresses, lotions, body oils, and diffused into the air for a steadying, strengthening effect.

Angelica Root vs. Angelica Seed:
There are two essential oils from Angelica—one from the root and one from the seed. The seed yields more oil and is therefore typically less expensive, while root oil is deeper, more concentrated, and more complex in aroma.

Herbal Lore:
Angelica has been cultivated for medicinal and nutritive use since the 10th century. The name A. archangelica is said to reference the Archangel Michael, who—according to traditional lore—appeared in a dream and revealed Angelica’s powers during times of plague.

Traditional Uses: grounding emotional support, digestive comfort blends, seasonal diffusion, natural perfumery base note/fixative, strengthening “restorative” routines.
