Description and Uses:

Witch Hazel is a wonderfully versatile botanical extract, valued for its cooling, toning and clarifying qualities. It’s a longtime staple for natural skincare and first-aid style routines, often used to support the look and feel of skin that’s oily, irritated, inflamed or blemish-prone.

This Witch Hazel is especially nice because it contains only 14% alcohol (many commercial versions contain far more alcohol than Witch Hazel). The result is a more soothing extract that’s still effective and easy to incorporate into your everyday formulations.

Formulation Note

Witch Hazel is a water-based botanical ingredient. If combining it with essential oils, carrier oils or other oil-soluble ingredients, an appropriate solubilizer, emulsifier and/or preservative system may be required, depending on the formulation.

Essential oils should not simply be added directly to Witch Hazel and assumed to be safely dispersed. Always formulate according to appropriate cosmetic formulation practices.

Storage

Store tightly closed in a cool, dry place away from excessive heat and direct sunlight. Keep the container closed when not in use to minimize evaporation of the alcohol and maintain product quality.

For external use only. Do not ingest.

Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Do not use in or immediately around the eyes.

Avoid applying to open wounds, significantly broken skin or severely irritated areas.

Because this product contains 14% alcohol, it may feel drying or irritating to some skin types, particularly very dry, sensitive or compromised skin. Patch test before first use and discontinue use if irritation occurs.

Use particular care when incorporating Witch Hazel into products intended for infants or very young children. Consult an appropriate healthcare professional before using botanical preparations on persistent diaper area irritation or other significant skin concerns.
