Description and Uses:

Basil Essential Oil (ct. methyl chavicol) is a bright, invigorating basil chemotype with a distinctive sweet, spicy, anise-like aroma. Aromatically, it’s refreshing and mentally clarifying—an excellent choice for diffusion when you want to renew your spirits, clear the mind, and reset after a difficult day.

In emotional aromatherapy, Basil is often associated with helping support confidence and clarity. Aromatherapy educator Salvatore Battaglia recommends Basil for those times when we might feel vulnerable or indecisive, helping encourage steadiness and forward movement.

Because this chemotype is naturally high in methyl chavicol, it is considered more intense than Sweet Basil ct. linalool and is generally used more for aromatic purposes than for topical applications.

Traditional Uses: mental clarity, uplifting diffuser blends, confidence and steadiness support, energizing aromatherapy.

Ways to Use Basil (ct. methyl chavicol):

Diffusion

Add 2–4 drops to a diffuser to refresh the air, support clarity, and uplift the mood.

Focus Blend

Combine with Bergamot or Lavender in a diffuser for a bright, clear, energized atmosphere.

Looking for a gentler topical Basil? We recommend Sweet Basil ct. linalool for most topical use.

Cautions:

For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Keep out of reach of children.

Basil ct. methyl chavicol can be a skin irritant. If using topically, dilute extremely well (maximum 0.1%) and do not use in baths. May cause irritation in those with sensitive skin. For topical use, we recommend Basil ct. linalool instead. Do not use during pregnancy. Perform a patch test prior to topical use. If nursing or under a doctor’s care, consult your healthcare professional before use.
