Description and Uses:
This Bergamot Essential Oil has a beautiful olive-green color and an exceptional, fresh green-fruity citrus aroma. Bergamot is widely loved for its naturally uplifting nature and is a wonderful oil for diffuser blends that brighten the mood and refresh the atmosphere.
Because this is pure, whole Bergamot essential oil (not bergaptene-free), we recommend using it primarily in a diffuser or burner. For skin care products, massage oils, or bath use, we suggest choosing Bergamot FCF (bergaptene-free), which reduces the risk of photosensitivity. Whole Bergamot can increase susceptibility to sunburn if applied to the skin prior to sunlight or tanning bed exposure, so we offer it with the precaution to reserve it for aromatic use unless you have experience and take proper safety measures.
Many people recognize Bergamot as the signature flavor in Earl Grey tea, and it has long been used in fragrances, cosmetics, and perfumery. It’s especially known as a classic ingredient in traditional eau-de-cologne, valued for its bright, fresh top note and clean citrus character.
In aromatherapy, Bergamot is often used for emotional support. As Gabriel Mojay notes in Aromatherapy for Healing the Spirit, Bergamot is traditionally associated with helping to disperse stagnant energy (Qi), encouraging the release of pent-up emotions that can leave us feeling “stuck.” This makes it a meaningful oil for blends intended to encourage lightness, movement, and renewed optimism.
Traditional Uses: uplifting aromatherapy, emotional support, perfumery, refreshing room fragrance.
Ways to Use Bergamot Essential Oil:
Uplifting Diffuser Blend
Diffuse 3–6 drops to brighten the mood and refresh your space.
Classic Cologne-Style Aroma
Blend Bergamot with Lavender and Neroli in a diffuser for a fresh, elegant scent.
Cautions:
For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Keep out of reach of children.
Do not apply this whole Bergamot essential oil to skin or use in bath prior to exposure to the sun or tanning lamp—it can increase the susceptibility of the skin to severe burning (photosensitivity). For topical use, choose Bergamot FCF (bergaptene-free), which reduces this risk. Perform a patch test prior to topical use. If pregnant, nursing, or under a doctor’s care, consult your healthcare professional before use.
